On Saturday 22nd October the YWCA Netball team entered their 3rd Fast-Net Tournament at Sugden Sports Centre in Manchester. After a shaky start with an unexpected fire alarm the Bury girls were eager to take to the court and get on with the show.
After a hotly contested group stages the Quarter Finals and Semi Finals saw the Bury girls take on Tameside and Trafford. In the Semi Final’s we saw Bury V’s Trafford with Bury taking the game 23-8 booking their place in the final against Oldham. The final was hotly contested between the two Manchester rivals Bury and Oldham. Both teams playing tentatively to ensure the win but after a few turn over’s Bury took control of the game winning 10-7. The Bury girls will be stepping up on centre stage in the National Fastnet Regional Final on Saturday 26th ann Sunday 27th November at Liverpool's Echo Arena. Good Luck Girls third time lucky!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations to YWCA Bury U13s who were triumphant at the Chester tournament. The team did not loose a single match and fought hard in the swealtering heat, working as a squad in all combinations that were put on!
The squad faced chester, Leyland Trafford in the group stages but managed to fight in the games to ensure great goal difference winning the group. In the semi-final they faced Rochdale A which are a team that are fighters and one to watch put for. The girls pulled through with the shooters all hitting the target and defenders Tyrene and Alexis picking up loose balls and key interceptions.
The final was no surprise o see us face Tameside A who are renouned for playing well in tournaments. At the start of the match we Tameside intercepted out centre pass, ending up 3-0 up, and left having to dig deep and not let them get a run on like they normally do. The girls faught hard with Alexis and Lucy getting interceptions for the team, with Phoebe slotting in the goals from anywhere in the circle. Half time 5-3 to Bury. A quick change in the shooting cirlce at half time saw Hannah creating space with Lucy feeding the circle with calmness to ensure the shots went in from the shooters. Bury won with the final score of 12-5. Credit to the girls forfighting to the death and displaying some fantastic netball!
Player of the tournament: Phoebe Atkinson who was calm under immense pressure to slot goals in.!
